BBIC Live: Style Club - Tuesday, June 1, 2021

Q : How to accessorize to lift an outfit?

Don’t underestimate the power of a necklace; it can totally change an outfit! You can also add a scarf that will work with almost everything in your wardrobe. Add a neutral bag, a pair of jeans and a trainer to dress it down, or a high-heeled boot to dress it up. It's all about looking at the pieces that you have in your wardrobe and having fun with them! Everyone likes accessorizing in different ways and it’s all about creating your own personal style.

*Update: the Trudi Pink Floral Scarf showcased in the Live is now sold out - we have included a similar alternative, the Rosanna Pink Floral Scarf.

*Update: the Amari Leopard Spot Scarf showcased in the Live is now sold out - we have included an alternative, the Butler Brown Zebra Stripe Scarf. The Carla Rust Stripe Scarf is now sold out, we have included the Samantha Mauve Stripe Scarf as an alternative.

Q: If you could only have 3 pairs of boots or shoes, what colour would they be for a cold climate in a winter wardrobe?

Our stylist, Dan, is on the shorter side at 5’2. For that reason, she likes wearing a bit of a heel - nothing too high as she still needs to be able to walk and work in them all day, so it has to be comfortable.

The first pair would definitely be a tan boot because you can wear it with all black, colour, denim, cream, prints, etc. A tan boot is exactly like a nude shoe in summer, it elongates the leg and makes us look taller.

The second pair would be a black boot - again, you can wear it with all-black, a great Ponte pant, our leather-look pants, our denim, our dresses, it’s quite dressy as well which gives us more options.

In summer, Dan loves a sandal - she wears them all the time. What can you do that’s as fun and casual in winter? A trainer! That would be her third pick. As for which trainer, that depends on what you’re looking for. The Pixie Silver Leather Sneaker has a great platform and a fun leopard print. The Ella White Leather Zip Sneaker has zipper detailing. Or you could just go with a plain white sneaker like the Paradise White Leather Sneaker.

There are a lot of sneakers out there that have a lot of colour, a bit of leopard print, a lot of different things going on - it depends on where you want it to sit in your wardrobe and what you want to do.

Q: What scarf and necklace would you suggest with a Navy Coco Dress?

You could do a plain hoop earring and a neutral necklace with a colourful scarf and a neutral bag.

If you want to keep it even more neutral, grab your Samantha Mauve Stripe Scarf and a yellow-based necklace which works well with navy. Pick one tonal necklace and work with that! You could do a neutral or black boot with it.

Q: Can you recommend a comfortable white sneaker?

The three sneakers that were showcased earlier all have a fabulous wide platform, which is very comfortable.

The Pixies have breathable leather through the front, so no sweating in winter. And the sole can be taken out if you have orthotics (and if you don't the sole is spongy and comfortable). These are great for a wider foot!

If you don’t want to be lacing things up all the time, zip-on sneakers are a great option.

There are a lot of great sneakers on the website at the moment - have a look here to find something that fits your style and your needs.

Q: How to wear belts according to your body shape

Belts are something that if you haven’t had a lot of luck or success wearing you tend to give up on. 9 times out of 10 the problem is the thickness of the belt or where you’re sitting it.

Now, if you have an apple body shape you hold your weight through the middle; putting on and wearing a very wide belt will accentuate that part of your body. So you need to wear something a little bit thinner and on your waist; find where the smaller part of your torso is - that’s where you want to wear a belt.

If you’re an hourglass, you tend to be curvy through the hips, like our stylist Dan. She likes wearing a belt at the narrowest part of her body as it accentuates her waist, even if she’s wearing a drapier top. It really balances out her body shape.

If you’re column-shaped, so straight up and down, you will also have to try and find where your waist is, which is usually just above your hip bone, sort of halfway between your bust and your hips. You will want to wear your belt there as it will give you some definition.

If you’re pear-shaped, similar to an hourglass body type, you will want to wear your belt at the smallest part of your body.

Q: I can’t wear yellow-based colours, can you show me a long maxi with a long cardigan in cool, blue-based colours?

When you’re cool-based, wearing navy looks striking with your skin tone so the Joy Navy Waist Tie Dress would be a great option; wearing stronger colours seems to work best and navy is not as harsh as black.

Another good option would be the Nat Green Floral Midi Dress. Even though it has a print, the green base is still quite strong which is important.

When it comes to longline cardigans, you could try the Beau Green Longline Cardigan or, for a softer look, you could try the Vivi Mauve Knit Cotton Cardigan.

When you have a paler skin tone, wear shades that have guts because they will add colour to your face. Also, blush and lipstick are very important!

*Update: the Joy Navy Elastic Waist Dress showcased in the Live is now sold out - we have included a similar alternative, the Nat Navy Midi Dress. The Vivi Mauve Knit Cotton Cardigan is also sold out, but a navy dress would look just as great with the Cece Beige Check Knit Cardigan.

*Update: the Beau Green Longline Cardigan showcased in the Live is now sold out - we have included a similar alternative, the Dreamer Navy Longline Coatigan.

Q: What colour tights are best to wear with a navy blue tube skirt?

Our stylist, Dan, is quite happy to wear black with navy but that obviously depends on your personal preferences.

Dan loves wearing all black with a navy tube skirt; so black top, black tights, black boots and then you have your hero skirt, which makes it stand out.

You could wear white leggings, which looks fabulous. Or navy with navy, which is pretty standard or, for a fun twist, try patterned navy leopard print leggings.

If you want a super fun outfit, try a striped tube skirt with navy leopard print leggings!

Anything goes really, but make sure that it works from a tone perspective.

*Update: the Navy Leopard Micro Modal Stretch Leggings are now sold out - we have included an alternative the Frankie Animal Print High Waist Legging.
