Endless Summer: How To Winterise Your Wardrobe

The mercury is dropping, the leaves are changing, but that doesn’t mean that you need to say goodbye to your summer dresses just yet!

As you know, we’re style lovers here at BB and one of our favourite things to do is coming up with fresh outfit ideas. Our current obsession? Figuring out ways to repurpose our summer clothes so that they can be worn year-round.

After all, what’s the point in finding the perfect dress if you need to fold it away for months at a time? Here are a few ideas to winterise and make the most out of your summer wardrobe as we move into the colder months.

Start by grabbing your favourite summer dress, such as the Becker Maxi Dress, or skirt such as the Black Modal Long Panel Skirt then:

1. Add a scarf

Nothing like a high-quality merino wool scarf to help you stay snug as a bug in a rug when that cold breeze hits! Choose one in a complementary colour for an understated look or go for one with a funky print to make a statement and add some jazz to your outfit.

2. Add a jacket

Remember your trusty denim jacket from last winter? Well, we’re happy to report that they never go out of style! We have them in classic denim, white or black to go with every outfit! Just take it off during the day if the weather heats up.

And if the temperature drops to the single digits, channel your inner royal and opt for a chic faux fur jacket fit for a queen!

3. Add leggings

Perfect under a long rayon dress, a pair of modal or bamboo leggings will keep you warm and toasty if you decide to have friends over for a cheeky wine on the terrace.

4. Add a turtleneck

Now, this might not work with every style but it can be a game-changer when layered under a v-neck or sleeveless dress. Choose a solid turtleneck in a darker shade, such as navy or black, to keep the spotlight on the rest of your outfit.

4. Add a cardigan, wrap, or poncho

An extra layer in a complementary colour to keep you warm and tie your look together? Clever!

A long cardigan is the perfect layering piece; we girls at BB always have one in our handbag to avoid the office chills.

Another great option that can be worn multiple ways is a luxe bamboo cashmere wrap; whether you choose to drape it over your shoulders or wear it backwards, it’s cosiness guaranteed!

To add some flair to your outfit you might prefer to throw on a poncho with faux fur accents or a fun print. This is also the perfect piece to layer over a basic long-sleeve shirt when the weather gets chilly - just add your favourite pair of jeans and some stylish sneakers and you’ve got your weekend outfit sorted!

4. Add a knit

Wearing a knitted jumper over your dress or maxi skirt can completely change your look and magically give you dozens of new outfits as you will easily be able to mix and match with existing clothes in your closet!

BB Insider Tip:
This style is too good to keep to ourselves!

To elongate your silhouette and keep all eyes on your dress, grab a skinny belt, cinch it over your knit jumper at your natural waist and pull out your jumper until it hides your belt and gives you that cropped top look that’s all the rage in Hollywood.

You can also achieve this look with the Bamboo Wire Free Bra; start by putting on the bra over your dress, put your knit jumper on over it and simply tuck the hem of your jumper inside your bra - adjust to your desired length.

What you’ll need to look for if you want to give this style hack a go is a looser knit jumper that’s long enough to be tucked into your belt or bra. And if you want to try this with a skirt instead, make sure that you wear a singlet as your base layer to avoid showing unwanted skin.

Here's our video tutorial:

7. Add boots

We’re not reinventing the wheel with this tip but, what can we say, it’s a good one! Instead of styling your outfit with flats or sneakers, try pairing it with leather boots and choose a pair with a small heel to elongate your legs.

And for those really cold days? Take a pointer from our friends in the Northern hemisphere: throw on a puffer jacket and add all of the above to your outfit. Endless summer, is that you?

Swapping your wardrobe over is a thing of the past! If you need a hand styling your existing outfits just pop in to our Newstead boutique or give us a call at 1300 880 635 - we’d love to hear from you!
