BBIC Live: Style Club - Tuesday, July 6, 2021

Here is a link to this week's video: https://fb.watch/v/1Qxb8ozS0/

Our stylist, Dan, wears the Juno Black Bamboo Dress, the Zane Black Square Stretch Belt and the Ginny Khaki Longline Knit Cardigan.

Q: I'm trying to cull my wardrobe and would really love to set up a capsule wardrobe - what would your go-to pieces be?

Our stylist, Dan, likes to go through her wardrobe once or twice a year; if you have any really summery pieces that you don’t think you can layer or wear as we transition from summer to winter, pack them away in a suitcase and get them out of your sight because, sometimes, having too many clothes in your wardrobe can become extremely overwhelming and result in you buying pieces that you already own.

When you’re looking at your pieces, think: do I love it, have I worn it, am I just holding on to it for sentimental value (which is totally fine). Split everything into piles: what you’re keeping, what you’re giving away, what you’re donating. And try everything on! You want to make sure that you’re dressing for your body shape and getting rid of stuff that doesn’t fit anymore - love your body for what it is and accept the fact that our body shape changes as we get older.

You also have to think about what kind of capsule wardrobe you want to build and where you’re going to wear it. Is it a capsule wardrobe for work? What is your work? Do you travel? For how long?

Here are a few things to ask yourself when starting a capsule wardrobe:

- Do I have great basic long sleeve tops in black and white?

- Do I have a good pair of jeans that I can put on and dress up with a jacket if I’m going into work or dress down and wear with a trainer?

- Do I have a great skirt, such as a longline or ruched skirt? We can dress this down with a sandal in summer and dress it up with a boot in winter. We can layer it with tights or leggings? It’s a piece that is so versatile and that we can keep wearing year-round.

- What about a denim jacket? This is a great piece to have in a capsule wardrobe as you can wear it with a longline skirt, a white pant or even the Juno Dress with casual trainers or a boot. You could even consider a black denim jacket or a fantastic blazer that you can wear with jeans, a simple white top and a great ankle boot?

- A neutral bag and a scarf?

*Update: the Delanie Pink Glitter Stripe Scarf featured in the Live is now sold out - we have included a similar alternative, the Butler Brown Zebra Stripe Scarf. The Navi Taupe Sequin Bleach Scarf is now sold out - we have included an alternative, the Sam Grey Merino Herringbone Scarf.

Q: I’m after a winter white cream top to wear with a black cardigan - not oversized or draped.

The great thing about white and black or cream and black is that it’s a very classic match made in heaven! So you can do anything from a nice scoop neck, a v neck, a long or short sleeve...

You could wear a skivvy like the White Micro Modal Turtleneck Top and a scarf - just add a statement bag like the Araceli Embellished Crossbody Bag.

A long sleeve white scoop neck with a fun scarf looks stunning, just pop on a neutral bag, a black boot and a black jean or blue denim. You could even go with a white top and white pants.

You can really wear anything under a black cardigan - you cannot go wrong! It depends on the pants and how you choose to accessorize your outfit.

Q: Can you please show us some long sleeve tops to wear under ponchos?

It depends on whether you’re going to be wearing your poncho as a top or as a jacket, to go from place to place and taking it off. If you’re wearing it as a top then it doesn’t really matter, as long as you’re comfortable. But if you’re going to be showing the arms you might want a bit of a feature, like a striped top.

Amy Hot Pink Wool Blend Poncho: this is a lighter poncho, you don’t have to take it off and you could wear it on top of any dress, such as the Juno Black Bamboo Dress. You could do a white turtleneck, stretch jeans and wear the hot pink poncho on top. You could wear your pink poncho over a Charcoal Marle Micro Modal Turtleneck Top with the Navi Taupe Sequin Bleach Scarf to bring out the grey from your base layer, just pop on a jean and a fun bag or a little black bag to keep it simple and tonal.

Alani Black Turtleneck Poncho: this is a turtleneck so it’s much warmer, you would definitely wear this one as a top which means that you could wear any basic underneath, like the Navy and White Stripe Maui Tee or the Blake Pink Stripe Top - when you’re wearing a fabulous poncho like this one you end up seeing a bit of the sleeve and of the print underneath, which can be fun.
